Installing Fiber Cement Board Siding For Your House

Cement board siding is an interesting choice for your home because of its many appearances and benefits. It is composed of cement mixed with cellulose fiber, sand and other materials, and therefore it can be made to resemble stucco, cedar shingles or even wood. Aside from its appeal, it is also extremely durable and fire resistant, providing you a safe and attractive option as siding for house.

The most common manufacturers of this material are James Hardie Building Products, who have made a name for themselves developing trustworthy brands like hardiplank and hardipanel. It is the ideal option for your residential needs since it incorporates the charm of wood, but with increased security and durability and less cost and maintenance. When installing your home siding, consider fiber cement board for a smart option.

How to Install Fiber Cement Board

You will need to collect basic tools to complete this job, like a miter saw with a cement cutting blade, a respirator and of course your fiber cement board. Prepare in advance with all your materials to make the job go smoother.

1. Start by measuring a 1 1/2" section of siding to use a spacer at the bottom of the wall.

2. Measure up from the bottom of the house and draw in a chalk mark every 6 inches vertically. This will be your location for each row of siding.

3. Take a row of siding and nail it in on the bottom chalk mark you made. Only nail the tops of the siding and make sure they are secured over studs. At the end of the row, leave about an inch of space free to allow the material to expand.

4. Where two pieces of siding meet, you will want to cover the overlap with a piece of plastic to prevent water from leaking in.

5. When the job is completed, caulk all joints for further protection.

Cement board siding is a relatively easy job to handle on your own since it can be worked with like wood, despite its composure. You will appreciate the esthetic value matched with its protection from rotting, warping, cracking or insects.

Cement board siding gives you the best of both worlds, and at a price cheaper than wood, its value is worth it. Choose fiber cement board for your home renovation project and get the skills you need to do the job properly and professionally.
