If you are at all handy and want to manage your own home renovations, stucco installation could be a good choice for the exterior of your house. A stucco system is not very difficult to do yourself, and there are various benefits to choosing stucco siding above other options.

It is a stylish look that is conducive to many climates and areas, there is a lot of room for personal creativity in the textures and colors you choose, it will last a long time and is both decay and water resistant and it requires very few tools and little effort.

Shopping around for the best prices and comparing the estimates that contractors give you to do the work can be tedious and expensive, so why not learn how to complete your own project and save money?

How to Apply Stucco

You will have a few tool requirements to install your stucco, so be sure you are prepared before you begin. You will need a trowel, builder's paper, a plasterer's rake, stucco lath and of course the stucco. When you have accumulated all your supplies, you can start the job.

1. Clean the walls thoroughly to eliminate any debris or dirt on the work surface.

2. For stucco to stick, there needs to be a mechanical bonding to the wall, so you will need to wrap your area in builder's paper and then cover it with a layer of stucco lath or chicken wire for the stucco to bond to.

3. Mix the stucco according to the instructions on the bag.

4. Use your trowel to scoop up the stucco and apply it to the wall in circular swipes. Press firmly if you are applying it over the stucco lath. Be sure to work swiftly as you don't want parts of it to dry before you finish. You will need to apply multiple layers to be thick and durable.

5. You can then create a texture in the stucco using different tools, like a plasterer's rake, to produce a creative effect. If you want to paint it, you will need to wait about 6 weeks first.

Stucco installation is not a very difficult project, so it is a viable option to consider for your DIY job. It also allows you to get creative and produce a very stylish effect that you can be proud of, along with a savings that will benefit you.
